Skip placement & council permits — Bay of Plenty

Place your skip on your own property (driveway or off-street) wherever possible. If it must go on the berm or road, that's the road corridor managed by Tauranga City Council or your local district council — you may need council approval (often a Corridor Access Request) for public access and safety. Skips can't be placed on footpaths, and you must keep clear of fire hydrants and utility covers (water, gas, telecommunications). Rules vary by council, so check with Tauranga City Council or your local district council; we'll help position the bin correctly at delivery.

Tauranga City Council — transfer stations

For DIY drop-offs, Tauranga City Council operates the Te Maunga Transfer Station on Truman Road (being upgraded into a resource recovery park). The Maleme Street site is now open to commercial account holders only, so households use Te Maunga. Check accepted items and hours first — a hired skip is simpler for larger loads.

Green waste, cleanfill & heavy loads — Bay of Plenty

Green waste is accepted at the Te Maunga Transfer Station and can be booked as a green-waste-only skip for garden clean-ups. Cleanfill is natural material only — clay, gravel, rock and uncontaminated soil; hardfill and heavy loads (concrete, brick, tile, soil) are charged by weight, so tell us if your load is heavy.

Regional questions

Bay of Plenty skip bin FAQs

Do I need a permit to put a skip bin on the road or berm in Bay of Plenty?

If the bin fits on your property — a driveway or off-street area — no permit is needed. If it has to go on the berm or road, that's Tauranga City Council's road corridor and you may need council approval for public safety. Skips can't sit on footpaths, and we keep clear of fire hydrants and utility covers. We'll advise on placement at delivery.

What can I put in a Bay of Plenty skip bin?

General household clean-ups, renovation waste, timber, furniture and garden waste are fine. Heavy loads — concrete, brick, tile and soil (hardfill) — are charged by weight, so let us know. We can't take hazardous items: asbestos, chemicals, paint, gas bottles, batteries or liquids. Ask us first if you're unsure.

How long can I keep the skip bin?

Standard hire covers several days, which suits most home and garden projects. Need longer? Call us on 0800 449 197 and we'll arrange an extension.

Do you take green waste in Bay of Plenty?

Yes — green-waste-only skips (branches, prunings, leaves and grass) are available and priced for lighter garden loads. the Te Maunga Transfer Station in Tauranga also accepts green waste if you'd rather drop it off yourself.

How quickly can you deliver a skip bin in Bay of Plenty?

Often the next working day, and sometimes same day depending on the operator and your suburb. Enter your delivery postcode above to see live availability for your address.
