Place your skip on your own property (driveway or off-street) wherever possible. If it must go on the berm or road, that's the road corridor managed by Hamilton City Council or your local district council — you may need council approval (often a Corridor Access Request) for public access and safety. Skips can't be placed on footpaths, and you must keep clear of fire hydrants and utility covers (water, gas, telecommunications). Rules vary by council, so check with Hamilton City Council or your local district council; we'll help position the bin correctly at delivery.

For DIY drop-offs, Hamilton City Council runs the Lincoln Street Resource Recovery Centre (refuse transfer station), with garden waste handled at the Wickham Street Organic Centre. Across the wider Waikato district there are transfer stations at Huntly, Te Kauwhata and Raglan. Check accepted items and hours before you go — a hired skip is simpler once you have more than a car-boot load.

Green waste, untreated timber, concrete and cleanfill (clean soil) attract reduced rates at Hamilton's transfer station to support reuse, and garden waste is composted at Hampton Downs. Hardfill and heavy loads (concrete, brick, tile, soil) are charged by weight, so tell us if your load is heavy.

If the bin fits on your property — a driveway or off-street area — no permit is needed. If it has to go on the berm or road, that's Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council's road corridor and you may need council approval for public safety. Skips can't sit on footpaths, and we keep clear of fire hydrants and utility covers. We'll advise on placement at delivery.
General household clean-ups, renovation waste, timber, furniture and garden waste are fine. Heavy loads — concrete, brick, tile and soil (hardfill) — are charged by weight, so let us know. We can't take hazardous items: asbestos, chemicals, paint, gas bottles, batteries or liquids. Ask us first if you're unsure.
Standard hire covers several days, which suits most home and garden projects. Need longer? Call us on 0800 449 197 and we'll arrange an extension.
Yes — green-waste-only skips (branches, prunings, leaves and grass) are available and priced for lighter garden loads. Hamilton's transfer station and the Waikato district transfer stations also accepts green waste if you'd rather drop it off yourself.
