Pickup & hire period
Skip bin pickup and hire period
Written by the Local Skip Bin Hire team · Updated 12 July 2026
How pickup works
Your booking includes a set hire period. At the end of it, the vetted local partner returns to collect the bin and lawfully disposes of the accepted waste — collection is included in the price you paid. You don't need to be home for pickup as long as the bin remains accessible to the truck.
Getting your bin ready for collection
Keep it level
Load no higher than the fill line marked on the bin. Overfilled bins can't be transported safely and may need to be levelled before collection.
Stay within the weight
Each bin includes a weight allowance suited to its size and waste type. Staying within it avoids excess-weight charges.
Keep access clear
Make sure the truck can reach the bin on pickup day — move vehicles and keep the path clear, just as for delivery.
Right waste only
Only the booked waste type should go in. Prohibited items or mixed contamination can delay collection and add charges.
Need the bin for longer?
If your job runs over, extended hire can usually be arranged. Contact our team on 1300 778 978, Monday to Friday 7:30am–5:30pm AEST, before your scheduled pickup date and we'll check what the local partner can offer. Arranging an extension ahead of time is smoother than missing the collection run.

Frequently asked questions
Is pickup included in the price?
Yes. Collection at the end of the hire period is included in the displayed price, along with delivery, GST and removal of all accepted waste within the selected bin's conditions. A standard pickup costs nothing extra.
How long is the hire period?
Each booking includes a set hire period suited to the bin and job. The included period is shown on the product before you book, and extended hire can usually be arranged if you need longer.
Do I need to be home for pickup?
Not necessarily. As long as the bin is accessible to the truck on the collection day and loaded correctly, the local partner can complete pickup without you present.
Can I extend my hire?
Usually yes. Contact us on 1300 778 978 before your scheduled pickup date and we'll check what the local partner can offer. Arranging it ahead of time avoids missing the collection run.
What if I overfill the bin?
Loads must sit level with the fill line to be transported safely. An overfilled bin may need to be levelled before collection, and excess weight above the included allowance can attract a charge, so it's best to keep within the marked line and weight.
