Liverpool council clean-up vs skip bin: the real numbers
Should you book the free Liverpool council clean-up, or hire a skip bin? On-call booking, but capped at 2 cubic metres a time. Fine for a few pieces of furniture; a bin from about 2 cubic metres up, for building waste, or when you cannot wait. A skip bin in 2171 starts at $308 (network price read 30 August 2026). Liverpool's own page states both 'two free clean up services per calendar year' and 'up to four collections per year' — the two statements contradict each other, and we would rather say so than silently pick one. Confirm with Council before you plan around the higher number. The metal and whitegoods stream, at least, is unlimited.
What the free Liverpool council clean-up actually gives you
Yes. Three separate free streams. Council's own page states both 'two free clean up services per calendar year' and 'up to four collections per year' for general clean-up - the two statements contradict each other and we have not reconciled them. Metal and whitegoods bookings are unlimited. Mattresses: up to 2 collections a year. Up to 2 cubic metres of general waste per booking. Metal and whitegoods: up to 3 whitegoods or 1 cubic metre of metal. Mattresses: up to 4 per booking.
How to book: Online. Cancel or reschedule by close of business two days prior or forfeit a pick-up.
How long is the wait for a council clean-up in Liverpool?
Book at least two weeks in advance.
What the free service will not take
Council does not itemise its exclusions on the page we hold. Treat building, renovation and demolition waste as excluded and check with Council before you book.
When waiting for the free collection is the right answer
If everything in the pile is ordinary household material — furniture, whitegoods, the garage clear-out — and it genuinely fits up to 2 cubic metres of general waste per booking once stacked on the kerb, book the free collection and keep your money. We arrange skip bins for a living and will still tell you that: nothing we can deliver beats free. The two questions to answer honestly first: will it really fit the cap, and can the job wait at least two weeks?
When a skip bin is the better call
A bin wins on any of three counts: the pile contains building or renovation waste the free service refuses, the volume is over the cap, or the date cannot wait for the council queue. It sits on your property while you load it, and everything leaves in one lift.
