Moreton Bay free tip access vs skip bin: the real numbers
Should you use Moreton Bay’s free resident tip access, or hire a skip bin? Council does not collect from the kerb, but it lets residents tip free. If you can carry the load yourself, that is cheaper than any bin. Hire a bin when you cannot haul it, cannot make repeated trips, or the load is bigger than a trailer. Moreton Bay counts the entitlement in visits, not cubic metres: up to 26 free visits a financial year, domestic vehicles only. Unusually, it takes clean concrete and clean soil free — materials every kerbside collection in this series refuses.
What Moreton Bay gives you instead of a kerbside collection
There is no free kerbside collection here - but Council disposal is free. No kerbside large-item collection. Instead, each residential dwelling can dispose of general waste, clean concrete and clean soil free of charge, as an annual entitlement of up to 26 visits per financial year (Council also sets a tonnage cap - see its page for the figure). Whichever you reach first ends the entitlement. Limited by visits and by Council's stated annual cap, not by cubic metres.
How to book: No booking. Domestic vehicles only: car, car with trailer, ute or van, ute or van with trailer. Vehicles above Council's stated combined mass limit are not eligible without an approved waste disposal authority.
How long is the wait for a council clean-up in Moreton Bay?
None - you go when you like, within the facility's opening hours.
There is no collection queue because there is no collection — the constraint is the facility’s opening hours and your own ability to load, drive and unload.
What the free service will not take
Free disposal is not available for commercial waste, or where a resident engages a commercial operator to dispose of their waste - even if the resident accompanies them.
When the free option is the right answer
If you own or can borrow a trailer, the load is liftable, and the facility’s hours suit you, free disposal beats any bin we can send — and unlike a kerbside queue, you choose the day. We arrange skip bins for a living and will still tell you that. The honest arithmetic is your time and vehicle against our price: one trip is easy; five trips with a borrowed trailer usually is not.
When a skip bin is the better call
Hire a bin when you cannot haul the load yourself, cannot make repeated trips, or the pile is bigger than a trailer. A bin sits on your property while you fill it, then everything leaves at once — no loading twice, no queue at the gate.
