Salisbury hard waste vs skip bin: the real numbers
Should you book the free Salisbury hard waste collection, or hire a skip bin? On-call booking, but capped at 2 cubic metres a time. Fine for a few pieces of furniture; a bin from about 2 cubic metres up, for building waste, or when you cannot wait. A skip bin in 5109 starts at $226 (network price read 30 August 2026). Both sides of that comparison are below, with sources and dates.
Salisbury's two yearly services flex the same way as neighbouring Playford's: take each as a 2 cubic metre home collection, or swap it for a voucher. Collection lands within a four-week window.
What the free Salisbury hard waste collection actually gives you
Yes. Two free hard waste services per financial year (1 July to 30 June). Home collection up to 2 cubic metres. Each of the two services can instead be taken as a voucher.
How to book: Through Council
How long is the wait for a council clean-up in Salisbury?
Collected within a four week period.
What the free service will not take
Council does not itemise its exclusions on the page we hold. Treat building, renovation and demolition waste as excluded and check with Council before you book.
When waiting for the free collection is the right answer
If everything in the pile is ordinary household material — furniture, whitegoods, the garage clear-out — and it genuinely fits up to 2 cubic metres once stacked on the kerb, book the free collection and keep your money. We arrange skip bins for a living and will still tell you that: nothing we can deliver beats free. The two questions to answer honestly first: will it really fit the cap, and can the job wait within a four week period?
When a skip bin is the better call
A bin wins on any of three counts: the pile contains building or renovation waste the free service refuses, the volume is over the cap, or the date cannot wait for the council queue. It sits on your property while you load it, and everything leaves in one lift.
