If your skip is going on a road, footpath, nature strip or parking bay in the Brisbane City Council area, that is council land and the rules below apply. On your own driveway or property, they generally do not.

Conditions the council sets
- Approval is required to "temporarily deposit building equipment and materials on a footpath"
- No approval needed for depositing equipment/materials on a footway for less than 48 hours if the work is outside the Brisbane CBD (PC1 zone) and is not on a state-controlled main road
- Clear pedestrian passage must be left at all times: 1.2 metres in residential areas, 1.8 metres in CBD or business areas
- Fees depend on which zone (A, B or C) the location falls in under Brisbane City Plan 2014
