Skip Bin Permit Knox City Council

If your skip is going on a road, footpath, nature strip or parking bay in the Knox City Council area, that is council land and the rules below apply. On your own driveway or property, they generally do not. "A skip bin placed on private property does not need a permit." Council adds that "Where possible, a skip bin should be placed on private property."

Conditions the council sets

  • The skip bin "isn't a danger to public safety and has reflectors and lights if the skip bin is not visible in the dark"
  • "a skip bin is positioned so that it is clearly visible for a distance of at least 100 meters when placed on a road"
  • "skip bins do not obstruct any footpath, pedestrian access, emergency vehicle, drainage pit or outlet channel"
  • "the skip bin is a maximum of 7.5 m long, 2.5 m wide and 1.5 m high"
  • The supplier's "name and phone number is clearly displayed on both sides of the bin as defined by the VicRoads", and all skip bins must comply with VicRoads guidelines for the placement of skip bins and the Knox City Council Amenity Local Law 2020
