Skip Bin Permit The Hills Shire Council
If your skip is going on a road, footpath, nature strip or parking bay in the The Hills Shire Council area, that is council land and the rules below apply. On your own driveway or property, they generally do not. "Under the Local Approvals Policy no Council fee or approval required for the placement of your Skip Bin wholly within your property" (not on any part of the nature strip). Conditions still apply, including max 7 consecutive days and supplier identification.

Conditions the council sets
- "As Skip Bins, Shipping Container/POD are unregistered and uninsured articles they MUST NOT BE PLACED ON ANY PART OF THE ROADWAY" - any application to place them on the roadway "WILL NOT be given permission"
- Nature strip exemption applies only if the container is 8 cubic metres or less, is in a residential (not business/commercial) zone, and is not immediately adjacent to a travelling lane on a TfNSW State Arterial Road or a Council controlled Sub-Arterial Road
- "The container should be placed to maintain pedestrian access at all times"
- "The container must be well maintained and clearly marked with the name of the supplier including a 24 hour contact telephone number"
- "The container is not used for putrescible or hazardous waste"
