Car Tyre Disposal — Adelaide

This add-on covers the collection and responsible disposal of a car tyre with an Adelaide skip bin booking. Whole tyres are banned from landfill in South Australia, so a tyre can never ride along unannounced in a general waste load — it travels as a declared item: tell us when you book, add one of this item per tyre, and the driver collects them with your bin.

How Booking Works

Book your skip bin for your Adelaide postcode as usual, then add one Car Tyre Disposal for each tyre going out. Declaring the exact count up front is what keeps the load compliant and the pickup smooth. Tyres still on rims, or more than a few of them? Call 1300 778 978 before delivery day and we will confirm how to declare them.

Why Tyres Are Banned From Landfill

Whole tyres are banned from disposal to landfill in South Australia, and the EPA's reason is physical: buried tyres do not compact and can flex back to the surface. Reuse and recycling are the routes the regulator points to instead (epa.sa.gov.au, read 3 September 2026). An undeclared tyre found in a general waste load can be treated as contamination — declared, it simply moves in its own stream.

Where End-of-Life Tyres Go

Tyre Stewardship Australia — the not-for-profit product steward established by industry in 2014 to run the national voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme — reports that Australians generate the equivalent of around 180,000 used passenger tyres every day, and that roughly two-thirds of used tyres are currently recovered (tyrestewardship.org.au, read 3 September 2026). Recovered tyres are processed into crumb, granules, shred and steel, then turned into roads, pavements, playgrounds, sporting surfaces and building products such as flooring and particle board. Declaring your tyres is what puts them into that recovery stream.

Helpful booking answers

Skip bin hire questions

Clear answers about pricing, waste types, delivery, access and local availability for this skip bin.

What is included in the displayed skip bin price?

Yes. The displayed total price includes delivery to the selected service area, pickup, the stated hire period and removal and disposal of accepted waste within the selected waste type and stated weight allowance. GST is included, with no separate standard delivery, pickup or disposal fee.

Extra charges may apply for excess weight, overfilling, contamination, prohibited items, failed access, booking changes, special items or council permits. Review the selected product conditions before checkout and see the full booking FAQs.

How do I know which waste type to select?

Select the category that covers every material you plan to place in the bin. General household waste, green waste, light building waste, mixed heavy waste, clean rubble and soil are not interchangeable.

Dense materials such as concrete, bricks, tiles, rock and soil can reach weight limits quickly. Use the waste type guide or call 1300 778 978 before booking if the load is mixed or unusual.

What items must not go in a skip bin?

Do not place asbestos or fibro, liquids, chemicals, oils, fuels, gas bottles, clinical waste or other hazardous materials in the bin unless the selected product expressly allows them.

Mattresses, tyres, batteries, appliances, carpet, plasterboard and oversized tree material may require declaration, separate handling or an additional charge. Check the exact product conditions and the accepted waste categories.

How quickly can my skip bin be delivered?

Delivery availability depends on the selected suburb or postcode, bin size, waste category and local supplier capacity. Same-day or next-business-day delivery may be available in some areas, but it is not guaranteed until the booking is confirmed.

For urgent delivery, call our support team on 1300 778 978 during office hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:30pm.

How long is the standard hire period?

This product includes the hire period shown on the page, commonly seven days. Delivery and collection dates are selected or confirmed during booking.

Longer hire may be available depending on the local supplier and schedule. Contact the team before the collection date if you need an extension, as additional hire charges may apply.

Can the bin be placed on a road or nature strip?

Placement on public land, including a road, footpath or nature strip, may require approval or a permit from the relevant local council. Council requirements and fees vary by location.

Where possible, place the bin on suitable private property with safe truck access. Check your council requirements before booking or contact customer support for guidance.

What access is needed for delivery and collection?

The delivery truck needs safe access, sufficient width and height, firm level ground and clearance from parked vehicles, gates, trees, eaves and overhead wires. The placement area must also remain accessible for collection.

Provide accurate access and placement details at checkout. Failed delivery or collection caused by unsafe or blocked access may attract an additional charge.

Is this skip bin available in my suburb?

Availability and pricing are matched to the suburb or postcode entered before reaching this product page. Local Skip Bin Hire works with independent suppliers across major Australian metropolitan areas and selected regional locations.

Use the service area guide or return to the postcode price search to compare current skip bin options for another location.

Can I pay with Afterpay or Zip?

Eligible customers can use available buy-now-pay-later options at checkout, subject to the provider’s approval, account limits and terms. Standard card and digital wallet options may also be available.

See the Afterpay and Zip information page for more details.
