What goes in a general waste skip bin?
General waste covers everyday household and renovation rubbish that isn't heavy fill or a prohibited item. Booking the correct waste type means the bin, weight allowance and pricing are right for your load. Displayed prices include delivery, pickup, GST and accepted waste removal within the bin's conditions.
Accepted materials
- Furniture, mattresses (surcharge) and general household items
- Timber offcuts and untreated timber
- Cardboard, paper and packaging
- Plastics and general renovation waste
- Whitegoods (non-gas) and general clutter
Not accepted — prohibited items
Never accepted (no exceptions). These hazardous items are prohibited in every skip bin:
- Asbestos, fibro and fibreglass
- Chemicals, liquids, oils and fuels
- Gas bottles and aerosols
- Paints and solvents
- Batteries
- Clinical or medical waste
Do not place these in the bin. If prohibited items are found after collection, contamination and disposal fees will be charged and the load may be rejected.
Not suitable for this waste type. Soil, brick, concrete and tiles are heavy fill — book a dedicated heavy-waste, soil or concrete bin so the correct weight allowance applies.
Special items — surcharge applies
These items are accepted but attract a surcharge because they cost more to process. They are confirmed before checkout — they are not prohibited, just priced separately:
- Mattresses
- Tyres
- Carpet and underlay
- E-waste (TVs, monitors, appliances)
Recommended sizes
A 3m³–8m³ skip suits most general-waste jobs. See the skip sizes guide to match a size to your job.
