Do you need a permit in Perth?
Across Perth, placing a skip on the verge or road reserve during building work generally needs a verge/works permit from your local council; on your own property no permit is required. Requirements vary by council.
What a Perth skip bin permit actually costs
The section above says whether you need one. This is what the council charges for it. Every figure below is copied from our own audited City of Perth permit page, which was read from the council’s own website on 27 August 2026 — we do not issue permits and we cannot apply for one on your behalf.
| City of Perth fee | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Road / Footpath Obstruction Permit Application Fee (Non Refundable) | $100.00 | Applies to residential and commercial applications |
| Road / Footpath Obstruction Permit Skip Bin Processing Fee (Commercial applicants only), per month or part of month | $100.00 | “Not applicable to resident applications” |
Source: City of Perth 2026/27 adopted fees and charges schedule, read from the council’s own website on 27 August 2026. Permit name: Obstruction Permit, lodged as a Skip Bin or Sea Container Application. Full detail and the council’s own link: City of Perth skip bin permit. Councils change fees — check the council’s current page before you book.
What that does to the total. Parking bay fees may also apply where the bin occupies a bay. A typical 4m³ general-waste skip in Perth is $537; if the bin has to sit on the road, footpath or verge and the $100 application fee applies, the job budget is about $637. On your own driveway or property no permit fee applies at all, which is why the same bin can differ by $100 between two houses in the same street.
What the waste type costs — measured, not estimated
Size is only half the price. The other half is the category — what is physically going in the bin. Across our live supplier network we measured all nine categories on the same 4m³ bin: the dearest ran a median $582 against $445 for general waste — a $137 spread on an identical bin, before a single extra cubic metre is added.
| Waste type | Median 4m³ price | vs general waste, same postcode | Postcodes with a live price | Typical range (middle 80%) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General waste | $445 | baseline | 170 | $329–$609 |
| Household waste | $470 | +$4.50 median | 154 | $329–$647 |
| Green waste | $459 | +$13 median | 172 | $294–$588 |
| Clean concrete & brick (clean waste) | $459 | $0 median | 179 | $359–$623 |
| Light building waste | $462 | +$18 median | 167 | $438–$694 |
| Mixed rubble | $528.50 | +$82 median | 168 | $459–$623 |
| Mixed heavy waste | $547 | +$104 median | 167 | $523–$694 |
| Excavation waste (soil & dirt) | $563 | +$106 median | 154 | $505–$776 |
| Mixed waste with soil | $582 | +$153 median | 154 | $559–$799 |
Measured 30 August 2026 across our live supplier network: 1,485 priced probes across 184 Australian postcodes, 4m³ bin, 7-day hire, delivery, collection and GST included. The “vs general waste” column is the median difference measured in the same postcode, which is deliberately not the same number as subtracting one median from the other — paired postcodes are the honest comparison. Published in full on our general waste, mixed heavy waste and waste category pages.
Applied to Perth
The premiums above are national and measured; the Perth baseline is this page’s own typical 4m³ general-waste price of $537. Putting the two together gives an indicative Perth figure per category — indicative, because the premium is a national median and your postcode may sit either side of it.
| Waste type | Measured national premium | Indicative Perth 4m³ |
|---|---|---|
| General waste (baseline) | — | $537 |
| Light building waste | +$18 | $555 |
| Mixed rubble | +$82 | $619 |
| Mixed heavy waste | +$104 | $641 |
| Excavation waste (soil & dirt) | +$106 | $643 |
| Mixed waste with soil | +$153 | $690 |
Anything with soil or rubble through it costs more everywhere we measured: mixed heavy waste and mixed waste with soil were never once cheaper than general waste in any postcode. Green waste is not a discount — measured against general waste in the same postcode the median difference is $13. Book the category that matches the load, because the load is priced on what is in it. Hazardous items — asbestos, fibro, chemicals, liquids, oils, gas bottles, paints, aerosols, batteries and clinical waste — are never accepted in any skip bin.
Perth prices by postcode — and how many postcodes are behind each row
We publish a price for 118 Perth postcodes (published price list, built 27 August 2026). Every table on this page is an average across those postcodes, and no two postcodes are the same — which is why we also publish how many postcodes are actually behind each size. Read the count column before the price column: 6m³, 8m³, 10m³ are priced in fewer than half our Perth postcodes, so those rows rest on a thinner sample than the rest of the table and should be read as a signal, not a settled market average.
| Skip size | Perth postcodes with a published price | Share of the 118 |
|---|---|---|
| 2m³ | 115 | 97% |
| 3m³ | 111 | 94% |
| 4m³ | 90 | 76% |
| 6m³ | 38 | 32% |
| 8m³ | 30 | 25% |
| 10m³ | 38 | 32% |
Live spot check: six Perth postcodes, priced by the network itself
These are not list averages. On 3 September 2026 we asked our own live supplier network to price a general-waste skip in six Perth postcodes — the same request a customer’s postcode search makes — for a mid-week seven-day hire, delivered Wednesday 9 September and collected Wednesday 16 September. Only figures the network itself returned as live supplier prices appear below. The cheapest live figure in the table is $412 for a 4m³ skip, in Leederville 6007 and Joondalup 6027.
| Suburb and postcode | 4m³ | 6m³ | 8m³ | 10m³ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Perth 6000 | — | — | $829 | $911 |
| Leederville 6007 | $412 | $658 | — | $911 |
| Crawley 6009 | $517 | $658 | — | $911 |
| Joondalup 6027 | $412 | $658 | — | $911 |
| East Victoria Park 6101 | $517 | $658 | — | $911 |
| Hamilton Hill 6163 | — | — | $829 | $911 |
Every figure above was checked against the live supplier network on 3 September 2026. Prices include delivery, collection, tipping and GST on a 7-day hire. A dash means the network returned no instant live price for that size-and-postcode combination when we checked — not that the size is unavailable there; ask and it can usually still be quoted. No Perth postcode we probed returned a live 2m³ or 3m³ price that day — those sizes are list-priced in the table further up this page. Live prices move with dates and availability — the postcode search at the top of this page returns the binding figure for your address.
Perth cost per cubic metre — where the value actually is
Skip hire is quoted per bin, not per cubic metre, so the cheapest bin and the cheapest space are rarely the same thing. Dividing this page’s own Perth typical prices by the volume you get shows where the value sits. Almost nobody in this category publishes a per-m³ figure, so it is worth doing yourself before you book the small bin.
| Skip size | Typical Perth price | Typical per m³ | From-price per m³ |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2m³ | $311 | $156 | $155 |
| 3m³ | $376 | $125 | $125 |
| 4m³ | $537 | $134 | $110 |
| 6m³ | $646 | $108 | $108 |
| 8m³ | $828 | $104 | $104 |
| 10m³ | $1,033 | $103 | $102 |
On Perth typical prices, a 10m³ skip is the best value per cubic metre at about $103/m³, and a 2m³ the dearest at about $156/m³ — a spread of roughly $52 per cubic metre for the same waste. Derived from the Perth price table on this page (published price list, built 27 August 2026); the practical limit is what will physically fit on your site and in your driveway.
How these numbers were measured
Every figure on this page is measured from our own live supplier network or our own published price list, and every one of them is dated. The size table is our published price list across 118 Perth postcodes, built 27 August 2026, taking the lowest advertised price per size in each postcode and averaging across postcodes — indicative, not a quote. The waste-type medians are live supplier-network prices captured 30 August 2026 from 1,485 priced probes across 184 Australian postcodes. The permit fees were read from City of Perth’s own website on 27 August 2026. The live spot-check table is different again: those prices were returned by the live supplier network itself on 3 September 2026 for a mid-week seven-day hire, and only sizes the network priced live are shown. Nothing here is a survey, an estimate, or a figure taken from another site. Where a number rests on a small sample we publish the sample size next to it rather than the number alone, and our full method is on the price methodology page.
