Skip Bin Permit City of Ryde

Placing a skip on your own driveway or lawn in the City of Ryde doesn't need council sign-off. The moment any part of the bin sits on the footpath, nature strip or road — even briefly, even just one wheel — Council's approval and its fee come into play.

Where a skip can and can't go

  • If your driveway or yard can physically take the bin, Council is unlikely to approve a footpath or naturestrip placement instead — private property is the default, public land the exception
  • A written approval must be in hand, and the fee paid, before the bin is delivered to any footway section of a road
  • Pedestrian and vehicle access has to stay clear around the bin at all times
  • Skips on the road reserve need 5 business days' notice; a naturestrip placement needs at least 3

How to apply

City of Ryde runs two separate forms depending on where the bin sits: a road reserve placement form and a naturestrip permission form. Both need the fee paid up front — Council won't issue approval on credit. Ryde's Customer Service Centre can also be reached on (02) 9952 8222 or cityofryde@ryde.nsw.gov.au if you're not sure which form applies to your street.

A note on what we can and cannot tell you

We hire skip bins; we don't issue road or footpath permits and can't apply for one on your behalf. Everything above is what City of Ryde had published in its fee schedule when we checked — treat the council's own page as the final word, since fees and conditions do change from year to year.
