Hunters Hill is a small peninsula council, and it runs one of the more expensive skip bin approvals in Sydney — a fee that jumped sharply this year, and a rule that pushes you toward your own driveway before it lets you near the street.

What changed, and what Council actually requires
- Both fees rose sharply this year: the application fee more than doubled from $117.00 to $238.50, and the weekly rate rose from $466.00 to $483.50
- Council's own wording is direct about the default: waste bins and mini-skips are to be located on private property "unless there are specific circumstances that require it to be placed on the road" — the road is the exception, not the starting option
- A Public Liability Insurance Certificate of Currency for at least $20,000,000, with Hunters Hill Council named as an interested party, must be provided with the application
- Once placed, the bin needs the supplier's name and contact details displayed, a battery-operated yellow flashing light, and reflective tape, cones or safety barriers at all times
- Separately, a waste transport company that moves mini-skips or containers through the municipality needs its own $683.00 licence — not something a resident booking a single bin needs to worry about
How to apply
Apply online through Council's OpenForms portal, linked from its Mini-Skip Bin page. Council asks for a minimum of 7 business days' notice before your desired date, and says staff will email your permit once approved — no other processing-time figure is published.
