Skip Bin Permit Moonee Valley City Council

Moonee Valley works skip bin permits differently to most Melbourne councils: a resident can't apply for one at all. Only a contractor already accredited with the council can put a skip on the roadway in Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Niddrie or Keilor East — so the fee below is one your supplier pays, not something you'll be asked for directly.

Permit needed for public land Yes — but only an accredited contractor can hold it, not the resident
What Council calls it Skip bin permit, issued after separate "skip bin company accreditation"
Permit fee $105.15 for a placement of 1 to 7 days
Coverage Moonee Valley LGA — Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Niddrie, Keilor East and surrounds

Read from Moonee Valley City Council's own website on 4 September 2026. Council's page doesn't print a financial-year label next to this figure, so we can't cite it as "2026-27" the way some councils do — check Council's current page before booking, since it may move without a dated notice.

Why this one works differently

  • Council's own wording: "Skip bin companies that apply to Council need a permit to place a skip container on the roadway in Moonee Valley" — permits can only be issued to Council-accredited contractors
  • A resident who wants a bin on the nature strip needs to book a supplier that already holds Moonee Valley accreditation — the permit and its fee sit with them
  • Council publishes a list of accredited skip bin providers by suburb, separate from the general permit page
  • A bin kept entirely on your own driveway or yard sits outside this framework — Council's permit language only reaches "the roadway"

How to apply

Applications and payment both happen through Moonee Valley's online service and payments portal, and only an already-accredited contractor can log in and lodge one. If you're booking through us, this is handled on the supplier's side — you don't need to touch Council's portal yourself. Questions about accreditation or a specific placement go to Council's Parking Control and Local Laws Unit on 9243 8888 or council@mvcc.vic.gov.au.

A note on what we can and cannot tell you

We hire skip bins; we don't hold Moonee Valley's contractor accreditation ourselves for every job and can't apply for a placement permit on your behalf outside our own accredited runs. What's above is what Council had published when we checked — treat Council's own page as the current word, particularly since it doesn't date-stamp its fee.
