What’s the cheapest day to hire a skip bin?
The direct answer
Usually, none — no single delivery day is reliably cheaper, but when one is, it is typically early in the week, and on a real quote the difference can be $47–$80. On 3 September 2026 we re-priced 39 real skip bin quotes against our live booking engine, checking the delivery days around each customer’s chosen day. Of the 25 priced live from the supplier network, 23 had no nearby day that beat the quoted day by at least 10% and $30. The two that did were both Mondays: $412 fell to $365 (postcode 6036), and $550 fell to $470 (postcode 2000). Published catalogue prices do not move with the delivery day at all.
That finding cuts both ways. Shifting the day usually does not change the price: in 23 of the 25 live-priced jobs, nothing near the customer’s day cleared our bar of at least 10% and at least $30 cheaper. But when a cheaper day exists it is real money — $47 and $80 on the two quotes where we found one — and both of those cheaper days were the following Monday.
How this was measured
- We took the 39 real jobs quoted through this site between 20 August and 3 September 2026 — actual postcodes, bin sizes and waste types — and re-priced every one against the live booking engine on 3 September 2026.
- 14 of the 39 had been sold at our published catalogue prices. Those are published per bin, not per day: the delivery day cannot change them, so on those jobs no day is cheaper by construction.
- The other 25 were priced live from the supplier network, where a quote is specific to the postcode, bin size, waste type and delivery date. For each of these we priced the days around the customer’s chosen day and looked for one at least 10% and at least $30 cheaper.
- The result: 23 of 25 had no such day. 2 of 25 had a genuinely cheaper day — both times the following Monday.
The two real quotes where a day was cheaper

Even these two do not add up to a rule. In postcode 2000 the Tuesday priced at $470 as well — the whole early week was cheaper. In postcode 6036 the Tuesday priced at $412, the same as the customer’s day: only the Monday was lower. What you are seeing is a supplier’s day-by-day price ladder in one postcode, not a weekday discount policy — and two cheaper days out of 25 real jobs is a thing that happens sometimes, not a thing to plan around.
Why there is no magic cheap day
Prices on this site come from two places, and the delivery day only matters to one of them.
- Live supplier-network prices are day-specific. When the live search prices your job, the quote is for your exact postcode, bin size, waste type and delivery date. Change the date and the engine prices it again — usually to the same number, occasionally not. That is where both Monday savings above came from.
- Published catalogue prices do not move with the day. Where your price is one of our published list prices, it is the same on every day we deliver. 14 of the 39 jobs we re-measured were priced this way — for them, “which day is cheapest?” has a flat answer: every day, equally.
Sunday is not the cheap day — it is not a delivery day at all
There is one day you cannot pick. Our delivery page is plain: “Deliveries are completed Monday to Saturday.” And our delivery and collection page: “Sundays are not available for delivery or collection.” So there is no Sunday price to compare — the question only exists Monday to Saturday.
What actually moves the price
The two Monday savings above — $47 and $80 — are the largest day effects we found across 25 real jobs. Each of the following moves the price more, on our own measurements:
- Postcode. On 30 August 2026, the same 2m³ general-waste bin ranged from $177 to $858 depending on the postcode. Where the bin is going moves the price far more than any day of the week did in our measurement — see the city guides for Sydney and Perth, the two states in the examples above.
- Waste type. For the identical bin size, mixed heavy waste ran a median $106 dearer than general waste in our category measurement. What goes in the bin matters more than when the bin arrives.
- Bin size. The measured step between sizes is on is a bigger skip bin cheaper per cubic metre?
- Hire length — usually free to extend at first, then not. Our hire-length measurement across 60 postcodes found the 3-day, 5-day and 7-day prices “identical to the dollar” in 36 of the 60 — but the other 24 charged more for 7 days than 3, by up to $114. Like the delivery day: usually free to change, occasionally very much not.
